Myspace Users: Beware!

Myspace "Phishing" scams seem to have really grown lately. These are malicious traps people use on Myspace to steal passwords, personal info and hijack profiles through the use of specially designed files they leave as comments. I have had it happen to me a few times and it can be a big pain, but it can be prevented.

There is a good article about phishing and tips here:

My Friendly Advice:

The best policy is to be safe and set your profile to only accept Text comments, not the flashy banners and pictures some people leave you. The worst are "Flash" files. These can in fact contain harmful links, and in some cases password stealing code.
To disable people's ability to leave you those sorts of things, here's what to do:

Go to: your Main page (when you first log in to myspace)
Go to: Account Settings > Profile Settings >

Then make sure each of the following are checked off:

Disable HTML Profile Comments
Disable HTML in Pic Comments
Disable HTML in Blog Comments

This will allow you to only accept, standard, plain, ol' boring text comments on your Myspace,
but will go a long way to protecting your identity, passwords and personal info!
